Doha, Qatar – In a concerted effort to enhance stroke management within home care settings, Qatar Care and Prime Care recently held an in-service educational activity titled “Race Against Stroke: Know the Signs, Beat the Lines.” The event brought together nearly 100 healthcare professionals to focus on improving knowledge and skills in managing stroke emergencies, with a specific emphasis on seamless transitions from home care to acute hospital settings.

The activity featured Mr. Mohamad Hammami, MSc EMT, a distinguished university lecturer from the University of Doha for Science and Technology. With his extensive expertise in emergency medical services, Mr. Hammami delivered an engaging presentation on identifying early stroke symptoms, implementing immediate interventions, and coordinating effectively with paramedics and acute care teams.

“We aim to save lives by recognizing the urgency of stroke management,” said Mr. Hammami. “A swift response, coupled with effective communication and coordination, can mean the difference between recovery and long-term disability.”

Moderated by Mr. Abdulkarim Agga, a seasoned nurse educator, and Dr. Veronica Cristina Macaraeg, the session encouraged interactive discussions and practical scenarios, ensuring participants gained actionable insights. The event’s primary objective was to equip home care staff with the knowledge and strategies to navigate the critical early stages of a stroke event. The discussions highlighted the importance of prompt identification of stroke symptoms, such as facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech difficulties, summarized by the FAST acronym (Face, Arms, Speech, Time).

Attendees also explored the protocols for transitioning patients from home care to paramedics and, ultimately, to acute care settings. This systematic approach ensures that patients receive timely and specialized care, minimizing delays that could exacerbate the condition.

Participants lauded the initiative, recognizing its relevance to their roles as healthcare providers. “This session has been an eye-opener. It reaffirms the value of teamwork and preparedness in delivering the best outcomes for our patients,” shared one attendee.

The successful completion of this educational activity underscores Qatar Care and Prime Care’s commitment to fostering excellence in home healthcare services. By prioritizing continuous education and collaboration, the organizations continue to set a high standard in patient-centered care, empowering their staff to handle critical medical situations confidently and competently.

This event not only celebrated professional development but also reinforced a shared commitment to saving lives and improving the quality of care for stroke patients across Qatar.
