Reaffirming its commitment to continuous professional development and high-quality patient care, Qatar Care, through its Education and Training Department, successfully conducted the third offering of the CPD activity titled: “Nasogastric Tube Care: A Training Guide for Nurses.” This NGT program consists of four sessions conducted throughout the year to ensure continuous access to essential clinical training.

Led by esteemed guest speaker Dr. Veronica Macaraeg, the session brought together staff nurses and allied health professionals for an in-depth learning experience designed to strengthen their clinical knowledge and practical skills in nasogastric tube (NGT) care.

Accredited by the Department of Healthcare Professions – Accreditation Section under the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), this activity was recognized as a Category 1 – Group Learning Activity and awarded 5.0 CPD hours. The central objective of the training was to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe and effective care for patients with a nasogastric tube. The session addressed core components such as proper NGT insertion, verification of placement, maintenance protocols, complication management, and adherence to evidence-based safety standards.

These were delivered through a combination of interactive lectures, clinical insights, and real-life scenarios that promoted critical thinking and safe practice.Dr. Veronica emphasized the significance of proper NGT care in preventing patient harm and improving clinical outcomes, stating, “Mastery of nasogastric tube care is essential in everyday nursing, and when done correctly, it significantly reduces patient risk and improves comfort.”

The session garnered resounding positive feedback from participants, who expressed high satisfaction with both the content and delivery. Many described the training as highly relevant, practical, and timely.
One nurse commented, “The training empowered me with new techniques and reinforced existing knowledge. I now feel more confident when managing patients with NGTs.” Another participant shared, “Dr. Veronica’s explanations were clear and grounded in clinical realities. It was one of the best CPD sessions I’ve attended.”

With the third offering concluding successfully and a consistently high turnout, the Education and Training Department is looking into organizing further sessions to accommodate those who have yet to attend. The program continues to demonstrate Qatar Care’s dedication to fostering a highly skilled, competent, and patient-centered healthcare workforce.
