In a remarkable initiative to enhance the expertise of healthcare professionals in wound care management, the Qatar Care Education and Training Department kicked off its inaugural face-to-face CPD Activity for 2024, titled “Training on Wound Care Management,” on March 27. The educational activity invited two focal experts in the field and delved deep into the advancing role of nurses in correct wound care management.
Roxanne Gregorio, RGN, the Wound Care focal accredited by Hamad Private Nursing Services and currently serving as a nurse supervisor at Qatar Care, discussed the essence of meticulous wound assessment, cleansing techniques, and the selection of appropriate dressings crucial for optimal wound healing. The discourse centered on the diverse types of dressings available, their unique properties, and the specific scenarios where their application proves most effective.
Shareen Jimlani, RGN, Qatar Care’s Infection Prevention and Control link, emphasized essential strategies for curbing infections within wound care settings. Her presentation underscored the significance of upholding a sterile environment, observing stringent hand hygiene protocols, and implementing evidence-based infection control measures.
The event underscored a holistic approach to wound care management and infection prevention, emphasizing the need to view patients comprehensively rather than merely addressing the physical wound. It articulated the importance of considering patients’ overall health, medical backgrounds, lifestyle choices, and emotional well-being when crafting a well-rounded wound care strategy. The training concluded with a macro demonstration that resounded with the participants.
Embracing a person-centered approach to wound care, healthcare providers can deliver personalized and compassionate care that not only addresses the wound but also nurtures the patient’s holistic well-being and journey toward recovery. This transformative perspective advocates for individualized care, guiding each patient on their path to renewed well-being.
