In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering cultural inclusivity in healthcare, the “Caring Across Cultures: Embracing Diversity, The Person-Centred Way- One Person at a Time” event took place, bringing together a diverse group of professionals and experts in Doha. This hybrid event witnessed the participation of a total of 72 attendees present in person, while an additional 132 individuals joined virtually via Zoom. The fusion of live and online engagement allowed for a seamless exchange of ideas and experiences, transcending geographical boundaries.
Topics were comprehensively discussed by two distinguished speakers, each bringing a unique perspective to the discussion. Jim Kinsey, representing Planetree, joined the event live from the United States, sharing invaluable insights garnered from a wealth of experience in the field. Meanwhile, Dr. Alvin Abainza, a prominent figure in the realm of cultural inclusivity and competence in healthcare, participated in a face-to-face session, providing attendees with a hands-on, immersive experience.

Key topics covered ranged from effective communication strategies to understanding diverse belief systems, and practices and dealing with barriers and challenges in PCC. The exchange of knowledge and insights not only enriched the attendees’ professional repertoire but also deepened their appreciation for the diverse cultural fabric that makes up the international healthcare landscape.

The event saw a significant representation from Qatar Care and Prime Care staff, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to promoting person-centered care (PCC) within the healthcare landscape. Moreover, the occasion was graced by representatives from various home healthcare outsourcing agencies, further enriching the discourse on cross-cultural healthcare practices. A notable highlight was the presence of HAMAD-PNS representatives, adding a governmental perspective to the PCC advocacy. Their involvement underscored the broader commitment of the healthcare sector in Qatar towards advancing PCC principles.

Initiated by the education and training department, this educational activity is part of a larger effort to fortify the implementation of person-centered care inpatient services. By emphasizing the importance of tailoring care to individual needs, the initiative seeks to create an environment where patients feel seen, heard, and understood. The event featured a dynamic program, including presentations, and interactive engagement. Participants were immersed in thought-provoking discussions, sharing best practices and personal experiences in delivering culturally sensitive care.

In an era where diversity is an undeniable strength, “Caring Across Cultures” stands as a testament to the collective commitment towards ensuring every patient receives care that respects their unique background and individuality. This event serves as a milestone in the journey towards a more inclusive and person-centered healthcare system, one person at a time.
