Qatar Care Elevates Clinical Standards Through CPD Activity on Tracheostomy Management By: Abdulkarim O. Agga, PhDNS RN

Doha, Qatar — Qatar Care continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing patient safety and professional development by hosting a highly successful Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity titled “Managing Tracheostomies: Best Practices for Safe Patient Care.” The event, held recently in Doha, is an accredited Group Learning Activity (Category 1) as defined by the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Healthcare Professions – Accreditation Section, and is approved for a maximum of 5.25 CPD hours.

Designed to equip healthcare professionals with the latest evidence-based practices in tracheostomy care, the activity gathered 36 participants, primarily registered nurses, from across the organization. Through a combination of expert-led discussions, skill-building exercises, and scenario-based learning, attendees were empowered to enhance their clinical competencies and deliver safer, more effective care to patients with tracheostomies.

The session was expertly moderated by Ms. Manellete De Vera, RN, and facilitated by Mr. Jonathan Medalla, RN. The keynote speaker, Ms. Rhodette Llerin, a seasoned Respiratory Therapist from Rumailah Hospital, brought extensive clinical expertise to the table. She delivered an in-depth presentation on tracheostomy indications, tube types, care protocols, and emergency management, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world application.

Participants engaged in interactive return demonstrations, practicing suctioning procedures and responding to simulated tracheostomy emergencies. These hands-on activities fostered confidence, critical thinking, and clinical accuracy, essential skills in both acute and home healthcare settings.

The CPD activity was further distinguished by the presence of two official observers from the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH): Ms. Asma Al Dosari and Ms. Rawan Al Saudi. Their attendance reflects Qatar Care’s unwavering dedication to regulatory compliance, educational excellence, and alignment with the nation’s healthcare priorities.

Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many commending the practical focus, the clarity of instruction, and the relevance of the training to their daily responsibilities. Several attendees noted that the simulation components significantly enhanced their understanding of managing tracheostomies, especially under high-pressure scenarios.

This CPD activity underscores Qatar Care’s ongoing mission to cultivate a culture of lifelong learning, clinical excellence, and patient-centered care. By investing in the professional growth of its staff, the organization continues to raise the bar in healthcare delivery, ensuring that every patient receives safe, skilled, and compassionate care.
