Workshop Strengthens Nurse Assessment Skills Through “Upskilling Trainers” Program

Qatar Care conducted a highly interactive professional development workshop titled “Upskilling Trainers: A Workshop on Strategic Methods for Effective Nurse Assessment” on September 19, 2024, at the Qatar Care Education and Training Hall. The in-service activity, organized by the Operations Department in collaboration with the Education and Training Department, brought together nurse educators, clinical trainers, and quality officers committed to enhancing assessment standards within the organization.
The workshop addressed the critical role of accurate and efficient nurse assessment in ensuring high-quality patient care. Through a series of structured learning sessions, participants explored innovative strategies, practical tools, and standardized methods designed to strengthen both teaching effectiveness and assessment integrity among nursing staff.
A team of experienced speakers led the program, each offering insights from their respective fields. The session was facilitated by Shareen Jimlani, RN, who guided the flow of discussions and collaborative activities. Presentations were delivered by Dr. Veronica C.B. Macaraeg, Resident Physician at Qatar Care; Abdulkarim Agga, MAN RN, Nurse Educator; Nadia Sattar, MN RN, Nurse Educator; Jonathon Medalla, RN, Quality Control Officer; and Rina Mae Gerong, RN, Quality Control Officer.
Throughout the afternoon, participants engaged in scenario-based learning, peer evaluations, and group discussions focused on common assessment challenges encountered in clinical practice. The speakers highlighted best practices for evaluating nurse competencies, providing objective feedback, and aligning assessment approaches with organizational standards and international benchmarks.
The event emphasized the importance of consistent, well-structured assessment methods in improving nurse performance and ensuring patient safety. Presenters also underscored the value of empowering clinical trainers with updated tools and a unified framework for evaluating nurse readiness. The workshop ran from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM, offering attendees a comprehensive learning experience that blended evidence-based instructional strategies with practical application.
By the end of the program, participants expressed greater confidence in their ability to conduct fair, effective, and strategic assessments. The success of the Upskilling Trainers workshop reflected Qatar Care’s ongoing commitment to fostering professional excellence and strengthening the capacity of its training workforce.
